The basic idea behind restoration is to bring an antique piece of furniture back to its former glory. But this is a highly skilled process and can be fraught with problems, unless you know what you are doing. This also means retaining the bumps and bruises that add to the charm of the piece, giving it that distressed appeal.

Yet restorers often go way beyond what’s required and land up stripping the piece of its old world charm by overdoing the repainting, polishing or the installation of fixtures. Ideally, what should be done to the piece – so that it retains all the imperfections that gave the piece its authentic charm and distressed appeal - is to ensure that it is steady on its feet and patched up only where necessary. Otherwise, it could end up turning into a complete transformation of the original furniture. Not the intention!

Nor can you try and do it yourself as a repair job that is not carefully executed can not only alter the value of your treasured possession but also might look a little like patch work in certain cases spoiling the overall look. It is always better in case of antiques to go for professional help rather than compromising the look and value.

Traditional antique tables with contemporary chairs or vice versa! Doesn’t it sound like an interesting pair? Any smartly incorporated contrasting element in the décor can stand out and even make a stunning display for that matter.
Experimenting with the different styles and mixing and matching is the trend of the current design era. So if you have already purchased a beautiful antique maybe you can think a little differently before impulsively investing into the uninspiring matching sets that, when you mix them, you may risk you bringing out nothing very interesting.

Antique French Farmhouse Tables are best known for their rustic charm and the distinct appeal because of their worn down and distressed appearance. Though the appeal lies in the distressed look, there are a few things that you should religiously take care of in order to maintain the rustic appeal as well as the look of the farmhouse.  Antiques are meant to be passed down the generations to come and in order to make sure that they last that long you need to take good care on a regular basis.

The drawleaf/extendable table and the dropleaf table are the best options when it comes to choosing a dining table with the flexibility to add those extra dining spaces when you have people over for dinner etc. A drawleaf table has pull out leaves, typically at either end, to provide 2 to 4 extra seating places whilst the drop-leaf is typically characterised by a fixed section at the centre and a bendable hinged section on both the sides that can be opened up to increase the seating space by maybe 5 to 6 paces. Having these extending dining tables in the dining area is the best option if there is any kind of space constraints or the area is also used for some other activity. In such spaces these draw leaf tables work amazingly well.

Great News just sold the gorgeous pale rustic Antique Normandy Table to a lovely gentleman in the States. This table will be shipped out this country this week after only arriving from France a few weeks ago. These tables are really rare to find but when we do get them they never seem to hang around.

It's all about the shape, style and colour. This particular antique table had the most beautiful patination on the top with matching base. This very rustic farmhouse style does suit most situations, they look great in farmhouse kitchens with a little vintage feel.

They also suit modern contemporary homes with straight lines and minimal colour. Antique tables always brings the warm homely feel to that kitchen or dining room with practical, modern and, with the right accessories, potentially full of character.

If your kitchen/dining room is modern/industrial/rustic/contemporary/clean vibe that we are all looking for in our homes, then our skill persona in an antique tables shop could give it that finishing touch.

We have just recently purchased a lovely antique rustic kitchen table from Normandy in France. The antique table has a 3 plank top with glorious pale patination and colour. It would suit any kitchen or dining area. A real find as it is very pale and is of good size. It has charming features on the legs and a very sturdy base, At Antique tables we are always so exciting when we find one like this with such character and style. I can imagine what it would look equally good with dining chairs or charming French Benches on either side or even a pretty set of French ladderback back chairs. A lot of people like to add a little country feel by adding a set of English Antique Country Windsor chairs.

Welcome to my blog.  I hope I can be of some help when it comes to Antique Furniture like Antique Farmhouse tables.  We at Antique Tables have been sourcing and restoring Farmhouse tables for the past 30 years.  I must say that it is a wonderful job.  Everytime a new table makes it way into our workshop we all cant wait to see what the final result will be.  Before Christmas we managed to get our hands on the most wonderful antique trestle table in it's 17th Century style.  After many hours of restoration the table all came together in it's glory.  With stunning patination and glorious colour it was the most wonderful Antique French Farmhouse Table yet.  We then found a very old monestary table which again once restored amazed us all.  Any antique table being trestle, tapered leg or Refectory style suits all different situ's.  We always try different chair selections to see what suits these tables.  Again they look fab with Antique Country styles as well as modern upholstered chairs or even plastic.  These things alway depend on the style of the room but most look stunning.
