Why are antique dining tables so popular?

Eating habits in UK

in the nineteen forties and fifties families gathered around the dining table in the dining room for family meals… There were no other distractions such as TV  or internet so everyone joined in and this was the time to be social, display good table manners, iron out any problems or worrying family members, making and sharing family plans etc
Gradually formal dining went out of fashion and quicker eating experience was called for. TV and internet began to eat into family time with families beginning to eat while watching TV and latterly eat whilst on the internet. Dining habits changed from formal dining in the dining room to informal supper parties in the kitchen.  Kitchens became bigger to accommodate and dining rooms were converted to TV rooms , computer rooms etc.
With the requirement to accommodate supper parties and family eating in the kitchen came the requirement  to have a large informal looking dining table.
Alongside this requirement was the change in home design fashion that meant that it was indeed ok to mix periods of furniture so it was ok to add an antique table with modern furniture etc.
