Magnificent Figured Ash Two Plank Top Refectory Table

Magnificent figured ash two plank top refectory table. 17th-century style substantial three pillar table, constructed using a pair of booked matched planks, that have been pit sawn and hand-planed. The top is joined by cleated ends and five tenon joints secured by hand-cut peg dowels. The knotty figured undulating top has a glorious tactile surface with exceptional colour and patina. The table's rarity is due to its immense size and exceptional dimensions which can seat 22 people comfortably, with an enormous rectangular top over 18 ft long, supported on three large elegant tapering trestle supports. These supports have platform bases that are united by a single central stretcher. Genuine examples of long trestle tables are scarce and almost unobtainable. In 2003 Sotheby's had one of very similar proportions and it sold for £128000 later in 2006 one sold for £420 000 with its provenance from the Chateau de Cornillon Loire. A table of this magnitude would be very unlikely to replicate due to the timber of this size and quality no longer readily available.
